Feels like a dream’: Cleaner in UAE awarded Dh100,000, has no plans to quit job

Pameela Krishnan has been thinking back on the turns and turns that led her to this remarkable moment. Her path took her from uncertainty in her native country to being hailed as a pinnacle of excellence in the heart of Abu Dhabi after receiving an award for her great work.

Pameela, who took first place in the Distinguished Workforce – Other Professional Levels category of the first-ever Emirates Labour Market Award, is still in disbelief and questions whether she is still dreaming about it all.

“When I went to get my prize, I was shocked, but I was also thrilled to be standing in front of so many notable visitors and government leaders. “It seems like I’m still dreaming,” Pameela exclaimed with a happy smile.

Along with other winners, the 51-year-old, who only speaks Malayalam, received a trophy and a certificate on November 23. “I have won many awards in my company, Canadian Medical Centre (CMC), but this is the first time I have received from elsewhere,” she stated. The Dh100,000 symbolic check was recently given to the resident of Kerala’s Palakkad district during a special awards event.

We were concerned that Pameela would be frightened when she went to pick up her award, but Sreeja, a coworker, noted that she was very confident and showed no signs of fear. “We thought she was getting an Oscar at that very moment.

Without hesitation, Sreeja said, “It is because of her dedication and hard work,” in response to the question of why the firm recommended Pameela for the prize. She has worked for the past thirteen years at this Delma Street CMC location. I’ve known her for five years, and I can tell that she works hard. She will always have a smile on her face and give it her all.

Seven years Pameela’s senior manager at the cleaning facility, Mohammed Salman Faris, said in a lighthearted way, “We asked her if she was going to quit and go back to India after she won the prize. She said a firm nay to that.”

Pameela adds, “I will only leave my job at CMC when the arbab (boss) instructs me to do so; otherwise, I am committed to working for as long as I am able.”
