Dust storm, low visibility disrupt flight operations in Kuwait

A significant dust storm across Kuwait briefly ended upset flight activities at Kuwait International Airport on Monday and caused air travel delays.

The thick orange dimness that had covered Kuwait on Monday seriously diminished perceivability, taking steps to proceed with postponements and retractions.

In a proclamation, air terminal specialists said it was shutting its airspace and ending all flights arrival and taking off until additional notification because of low perceivability.

Trips into the global air terminal have been impacted by the ongoing atmospheric conditions, said Imad Al-Jalawi, Deputy Director General for Air Navigation Services at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, in an articulation to KUNA.

Flights’ timetables will be assessed, and ordinary avionics activities will continue once perceivability improves, Al-Jalawi added.

He added that Kuwait is at present impacted by low perceivability alongside solid breezes arriving at in excess of 50 km/h.
