UAE: Boys in public schools can now wear traditional Emirati dress as option for school uniform

Male understudies in state funded schools in the UAE have been permitted to wear the conventional Emirati dress (Kandura) as an option for the new school uniform.

The Emirates School Establishment (ESE) on Wednesday reported that it has chosen to give the choice of wearing the male Emirati dress as a school uniform for young men in cycle 2 and cycle 3 (from Grade 5 or more).

As per the ESE, beginning one week from now, young men in cycle-2 can wear the Kandura as a discretionary school uniform other than the endorsed new school uniform, while understudies in cycle 3 can wear Kandura with Hamdaniya or gutrah (conventional UAE headscarf) other than the new school uniform.

The move follows a review that showed that a few guardians favored Kandura to the new school uniform for male understudies, which incorporates a shirt, a tie and pants.

The ESE said it was enthusiastic about discussing intimately with guardians to push ahead in supporting the schooling system.

The ESE had before declared that all state funded school understudies in the UAE would utilize another school uniform with impact from the ongoing scholastic year that started on August 29.

The ESE presented the new school uniform for all understudies of state funded schools, beginning from kindergarten to grade 12.

The new uniform incorporates a set containing a white shirt and skirt for a young lady in Grade 9 and a set including a white shirt, blue pants and a tie for a kid in a similar grade.

For young men in grades 1 to 4, the uniform incorporates a proper white shirt with a logo, a tie and shorts or long blue pants, while young ladies in similar grades put on a conventional white shirt highlighting a logo, with either wide-leg blue culottes-style pants or a blue dress.

Their games uniform for young men incorporates a white and blue T-shirt, with white and blue pants or shorts, while that of young ladies incorporates a white and blue T-shirt with pants or shorts.

For grades 9 to 12, young men wear a proper white shirt (long or short sleeve) with a tie, and dim blue pants. Their games uniform comprises of a white and dim blue T-shirt and dull blue games pants.

Young ladies in grades 9 to 12 wear a conventional white shirt with either dim blue wide-leg culottes-style pants or a long skirt. The young ladies’ games uniform incorporates a dim blue (long or short sleeve) sports T-shirt and pants.
